Heroic Food is committed to ensuring that graduates have the skills and experience to be successful farmers, craftspeople and food entrepreneurs. Through Heroic Food, Trainees will be connected to a wide network of master farmers, educators, businesses, and conservation and community organizations throughout the Hudson Valley and beyond.
Next steps for farmers
Whether graduates decide to continue gaining farm experience, to pursue a skilled trade, or to start their own farm or food business, Heroic Food can help with the transition. Heroic Food connects graduates who are ready to start their own farms with resources to help identify and secure affordable, productive farmland for lease or purchase, find affordable financing options, and connect with local markets and distribution. Heroic Food also solicits donations of equipment to be passed along to beginning veteran farmers.
Pursuing Other Career Paths in Sustainable Food
Heroic Food also encourages veterans to explore careers in food processing, craft food preparation, local marketing and distribution, and the skilled trades.
Graduates who have their own farms have the opportunity to market goods through Homegrown By Heros, a new regional/national brand of produce from farms run by U.S. military veterans, recently launched by the Farmer-Veteran Coalition.
