OUTREACH & PR SERVICES
Donate PR, social media, photo & video, promotional and outreach skills, materials and facilities to help us grow Heroic Food. Help us manage our website, Facebook page. Create promotional and print materials such as business cards, brochures, t-shirts, flyers to improve our outreach.
If you are a farmer, chef, caterer, or restaurateur, or professional event planner, please consider donating your talent, services or the use of your venue for a special fund-raising event.
Veterans with lingering effects of physical and psychic injuries can benefit greatly from holistic therapeutic practices such as yoga or meditation, cranial-sacral osteopathy, homeopathy, reiki, etc. If you are a practitioner, please volunteer 6 hours a year or more to help our veterans heal and get strong.
SPONSOR A VETERAN
You can underwrite the costs of sending an individual veteran or group of veterans through the Full Year Immersion Program or help sponsor a Farm Entry or Farm Skills Workshop. For more information, please contact the Director.
Help us fund the following much-needed site and building improvements:
ADDITIONAL HOUSING AND SITE DEVELOPMENT — We have a beautiful site plan created for us by Ennead Architects Lab and RAFT Landscape Architecture. The plan provides for additional housing for single and married veterans, and a community house for dining, classroom instruction, recreation, and restorative mind-body work.
DAIRY BARN REHAB — Our dairy barn is over a hundred years old. It is still a scenic beauty, but can’t be used in its current condition. Major repairs to the barn will make it a safe and functional space for animals and people.
HIGH TUNNEL GREENHOUSE – We have one high tunnel greenhouse in need of irrigation, fans, and solar powered heat. Heated high tunnel greenhouses will allow program participants to continue farming throughout the year, grow their own food, and sell to markets which have pledged their support for sales. Each high tunnel will earn around $9,000 a year to help us run the Heroic Food program.
HAY BARN REHAB — A new floor, electrical wiring and fixtures for our hay barn – So it can be used for instruction and recreation for program participants, and also rented out for events, thus creating income for Heroic Food.
FARM STORE RENOVATION – Insulated and heated, our farmstore could be used year round to sell greenhouse produce and eggs from our chickens.
LANDSCAPING, FENCING, & FIELD DRAINAGE — Our farm is on a busy road, which is visible and audible from the farmhouse. In addition, our front fields are regularly flooded. Donation of materials and services to address these issues would make our fields usable, and create a protective zone to make the farm feel more contained, secure, and peaceful.
The existing farmhouse common space is small. An extended, screened-in “teaching porch” would allow residents and workshop participants a pleasant common area to gather, dine, relax, and learn together.
OTHER DONATIONS NEEDED
Wood Stoves and wood to feed them – 2 wood stoves would allow us to lower our fuel bills and keep residents toasty in winter.
Truck or car– Heroic Food needs a company vehicle! A donated truck, car, or van (new or used, reasonably energy-efficient) will allow us to avoid the expense of renting vehicles for farm- and program-related transportation.
Equipment – A donated tractor-mower or tractor (new or used) will enable us to mow and plough our property and eliminate the cost of hiring people to do those jobs. It will also provide an opportunity for program participants to earn income by serving home-owners in the area. A chain saw, weed-whacker, smaller equipment, and hand tools are also much needed and appreciated.
Refrigerator, Freezer, & Washer/Dryer– A newer, larger, more energy-efficient refrigerator and freezer are needed to replace our old, rusty, energy-inefficient, small capacity refrigerator to better serve our residents’ needs and save on our electric bills.
60 acres for sale next door! Buy the parcel and either donate or lease it to Heroic Food. The extra acreage would allow us to pasture livestock and protect our farm from commercial residential development next door.
Furniture – Donate living room, office, and bedroom furniture, lamps, and kitchenware in good, clean condition. Let us know what you have; we will only take what we know we can use!
Donate bees and hives – We will love the bees and sell the honey they donate to us!
We humbly and gratefully accept cash donations of any size. To make a tax deductible cash donation, please go to our donation page, HERE.
