Growing Season Workshops
(April – November)
Held once a month, these one-day workshops explore farm and food topics of interest to Trainees, such as farm ecology, soil health, pasture management, beekeeping, composting, animal health, cheese making, fermenting, etc.
Winter Intensive Program
(2 required for graduation)
The Winter Intensive Program offers courses of varying lengths that allow Trainees to deepen their knowledge of various farm and food skills, crafts, production philosophies and practices.
The Winter Program will also offer hands-on workshops focusing on topics such as sustainable (green) building, welding, tractor and farm equipment repair, biodiesel fuel production, etc.
Farm Planning & Management Course
(9 Saturdays, October – January)
All Trainees will receive a full scholarship to attend the Farm Beginnings course offered by the Hawthorne Valley Farm Learning Center. This is a holistic farm business planning and management course, incorporating financial, ecological, and social goals. This course is open to the public but is free to HF veteran trainees, and required for graduation.
